  • Our coarse sand substrate is 100% real slate stone that is sourced, sorted, washed and packaged in the USA by our family-owned business.  Each bag or box is a mix of coarse sand sized from 1/32" to 1/8" (some pieces may be slightly above or below this range).  Absolutely no coatings on this or any of our stones.
  • An excellent gravel for aquascaping aquariums or use it as a topper for soil in a planted tank.  The grey/blue color makes wood, plants, and other inhabitants  and decorations pop. Pairs perfectly with our larger slate stones that come in sizes from 1 inch up to 10 inches for a cohesive, natural scene.
  • This coarse sand substrate is a beautiful, deep grey matte color, with a hint of blue.  Because this is a natural stone, some white quartz or brown stones may be mixed in that add to the natural look.
  • Due to shipping and handling, this gravel will arrive quite dusty.  This is normal for this type of stone.  Be sure to wash this gravel repeatedly, in water ONLY, until the water runs clear (or mostly clear).  Place cleaned gravel in your empty tank (no water), and decorate before adding water.  To add water, place a clean bowl or container (glass or ceramic is best, as it does not float) in the tank and pour the water into the bowl.  In order to keep cloudiness to a minimum, allow the water to overflow the container slowly so as not to disturb the substrate.  As with any new tank set up, the water will be cloudy at first (even after rinsing and pouring slowly).  It will clear up, with proper filtration, in a few days.  Always cycle your tank and test the water parameters before adding inhabitants to your tank.
  • We offer three different sizes of aquarium gravel to choose from; course sand sized from 1/32" to 1/8" (this listing) , 1/8" to 1/4" and 1/4-1/2".  We like to mix these for an even more realistic scene!  Check them out!  Perfect for Nano tanks to 100+ gallon aquariums!
