  • Our small scale coarse sand is 100% real stone that is sourced, sorted, washed and packaged by our family owned business in the USA.  Each bag or box is a mix of small slate gravel from 1/4" to 1/2" (some pieces may be slightly above or below this range).  Absolutely no coatings on this or any of our stones
  • Perfect scale for model terrain, wargaming miniatures, dioramas, model railways and miniature gardens.
  • Great as a topper for bonsai, succulents and other potted plants. Pairs perfectly with our larger slate stones and smaller gravel for a cohesive, natural scene.
  • An excellent substrate for aquascaping fresh and saltwater aquariums, and planted tanks. The unique color of this stone makes wood, plants and other inhabitants and decorations pop!
  • This substrate is a beautiful, deep grey matte color, with a hint of blue.  Because this is a natural stone, some white quartz or brown stones may be mixed in that add to the natural look.
  • We offer three different sizes of gravel to choose from; course sand sized 1/32" to 1/8", 1/8" to 1/4" and 1/4-1/2" (this listing).  We like to mix these for an even more realistic scene!  Check them out!
  • This gravel may arrive dusty due to shipping and handling.  This is normal for this stone. Rinse in plain water and allow to dry

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS: This substrate will arrive quite dusty due to shipping and handling.  This is normal for this stone.  Be sure to wash gravel repeatedly, in water ONLY, until water runs clear (or mostly clear).  Place cleaned gravel in your empty tank (no water), and decorate before adding water.  To add water, place a clean bowl or container in the tank and pour the water into the bowl and allow to overflow the container slowly so as not to disturb the substrate, in order to keep cloudiness to a minimum.  As with any new tank set up, the water will be cloudy at first (even after rinsing).  It should clear up, with proper filtration, in a few days.
